Utilizing Creative Job Search Strategies

Are you utilizing a creative job search strategy on your quest to finding your dream job? Do you even know of creative ways to find hidden job opportunities that are not widely advertised? If you answered “NO” to both questions then you are losing out on great opportunities; there are a number of companies out there that offer great jobs but are not huge fans of conventional job advertising.

As a job seeker, it is important that you utilize all resources available to you and think of other ways to find jobs; thus utilizing creative job search strategies. It all starts with clearly identifying yourself, your goals, and your strategies. What industry do you belong to? What organizations are you part of? What do your social activities include? Is your resume updated? Do you have a website, business cards, and other tools that aid your job hunting?

Once you’ve answered all those questions, take a closer look and see whether your sales tools are in synch and are working together to achieve your goals. Are they relaying your intentions and messages clearly? Do they focus on you or your potential employers’ benefit if they hire you? Are they attracting the right audience? If not, then you have some work to do. Being consistent is one of the keys to attracting potential employers.

Creative job search strategies also pertain to enlisting the help of your friends and colleagues without actually begging them to help you find a job. Simply letting them know that you are currently looking for a job and the type of job you are looking for is enough to make them remember you whenever they run into a job opening that fits your description.

There are tons of jobs available out there that are not publicly listed on job boards, classifieds, websites, and other conventional stuff. Many companies find them an inefficient way to attract qualified candidates, so they usually make open jobs known to their employees and welcome referrals.

Thinking creatively allows you to practice your mind and lets you think of more creative job search strategies that you probably wouldn’t think about if you stuck with traditional job finding. Make it a point to think of one creative strategy everyday or every 2 days and you’ll be surprised with what you come up with. The mind is an amazing resource to tap especially when looking for a job. Go ahead and try it.
